Smith's Regal River 9in Floating Fish Gripper is a lip-gripping tool for landing and handling fish without putting your hands near hooks or teeth. It clamps securely onto the lower jaw via a locking mechanism, holding the fish steady for unhooking, photographing or weighing, then releases cleanly at the squeeze of a quick-release trigger for a safe catch-and-release. The body is moulded from heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant plastic, so it stands up to repeated use in both fresh and salt water without seizing or rusting, and the shaped handle is designed to sit comfortably in the hand through a long session on the bank or afloat. At nine inches it's light enough to carry all day, floats if it goes over the side, and comes with a wrist lanyard so it stays within reach rather than sinking. Particularly useful on species with sharp teeth or a lively fight in them, and a practical addition to the kit bag for anyone fishing from a kayak, canoe or small boat where deck space and weight both matter.
