The Nordik Barrborn Basic Crow is a mouth-blown call developed by Roger Barrborn in partnership with Nordikpredator of Sweden, designed to reproduce the softer end of the crow's vocal range. Rather than the harsh, aggressive calls used to provoke a reaction, the Basic produces the quieter contact sounds a crow makes when declaring an area safe, useful for drawing birds in close over decoys rather than alarming them off. The mouthpiece sits between the lips just in front of the teeth, and a simple R-sound started without force gives the foundation call; from there, varying how hard you pinch the mouthpiece changes pitch, and cupping a hand in front of the sound chamber adds further tone and volume control. It takes a little practice to get consistent, lifelike sounds, but the mechanism itself has nothing to break or adjust. Nordikpredator's own advice is to run it alongside the Nordik Barrborn Pro Crow, alternating the Basic's soft calls with the Pro's harder ones to build a convincing two-bird duetto during a crow or corvid control session.
