The Swazi Hoodoo Merino Long Johns are a merino wool base layer, made to go on next to the skin under stalking or hunting trousers rather than as an outer garment. They're built from Nuyarn Merino, a New Zealand-engineered wool construction that behaves differently to a conventional knit: it dries up to five times faster, holds 35% more thermal retention, is 50% more durable and 53% more wind resistant than ordinary merino, while keeping 35% more stretch and still returning to shape. On a hill in a Highland downpour that means warmth that doesn't collapse the moment the fabric gets damp, and when you're working hard on a stalk, you get the cooling and moisture-wicking to go with it rather than a base layer that just sits there overheating you.
