The Hornady FTX is a component reloading bullet — a projectile for handloaders, not a loaded cartridge. Designed specifically for the .45-70 Govt and .450 Marlin chamberings, this .458" diameter, 325 grain bullet brings tipped-bullet performance to lever-action rifles that feed from tubular magazines. The patented Flex Tip technology uses a soft polymer tip that compresses into the bullet cavity on impact, initiating reliable expansion across a wide range of velocities without the detonation risk that makes conventional pointed bullets unsafe in tube magazines. The one-piece, high antimony lead core is mechanically locked to the jacket via Hornady's InterLock ring, promoting controlled expansion and deep penetration on large, heavy-bodied game. A ballistically efficient secant ogive profile — developed by Hornady — improves stability and extends effective range beyond what traditional flat-nose lever-gun projectiles can achieve. The specially engineered heavy jacket over the shank works with the InterLock design to regulate expansion. Supplied in boxes of 100. Suitable for reloaders developing hunting loads for deer, wild boar and other large quarry in .45-70 Govt or .450 Marlin rifles.
