The Lee Universal Flaring Die gently bells the case mouth to accept cast or jacketed bullets without shaving or damaging the projectile during seating. Used as a case-conditioning step on the reloading press, it improves round-to-round consistency of neck tension by ensuring each bullet enters the case freely and squarely. Handloaders working with cast lead bullets will find the flare indispensable for preventing lead shaving; those loading jacketed bullets benefit from the more uniform bullet pull it produces, reducing variation caused by minor differences in neck length or case mouth hardness. The die uses a set of stackable, interchangeable neck plugs covering .22 calibre through .45 calibre, so one die handles virtually every common handgun and rifle cartridge on the bench. It fits any standard 7/8 inch–14 TPI reloading press. The die body is hardened steel and the adjustment is straightforward — screw the neck plug in or out to dial in the precise amount of flare required. A minimal flare is all that is needed; correct technique leaves no visible bell on the finished round, and any slight flare that does remain is removed at the crimp step.
