The Sierra 7mm/.284 180 grain HPBT MatchKing is a precision reloading bullet head, not loaded ammunition — it is a component for handloaders to seat into their own cartridge cases, not a ready-to-fire round. Sierra developed this 7mm (.284in), 180 grain option in response to demand from top-level F-Class and other long-range shooters for a heavier, higher ballistic coefficient bullet in the 7mm line. It uses a 12 calibre secant ogive and an elongated boat tail with a small hollow-point meplat, a combination designed to cut drag and reduce the effect of wind at extreme range. A barrel twist rate of 1-in-8in or faster is needed to stabilise it properly. Sierra does not recommend MatchKing bullets for most hunting use — they are built and proven for target and long-range match shooting. Supplied in a box of 100.
