The Lee Auto Prime XR is an updated version of the world's most popular hand-held priming tool, designed for reloaders who want fast, accurate primer seating away from the press. The key upgrade over the original is the patent-pending elevator pin, which isolates a single primer from the tray before presenting it for seating — significantly reducing the risk of tray detonation caused by sensitive modern primers. Unlike the earlier model, the XR accepts every major brand of primer, so you are not restricted to CCI or Remington. The body and shellholder system carry over from the proven original, but the lever, tray and feed components have all been revised: the new comfort-curve lever is designed not to break, and the large square trays fit primer boxes from all manufacturers, with slide-on covers for both large and small primers. Lee Auto Prime Shellholders are required and sold separately — standard press shellholders will not fit. Note that Winchester Short Magnum and Winchester Super Short Magnum brass (using the #5 shellholder) require a small amount of material to be removed from the collar of the tool before use.
