Eley Match is a .22 Long Rifle competition cartridge built for precision target shooting, sitting second only to Eley Tenex in the company's rimfire range. It carries a 40 grain (2.59g) flat-nose lead bullet and a cut-mouth case, the same physical attributes found in Tenex, which makes Match a sensible training and practice round for shooters who compete on Tenex. The flat-nose profile suits paper and benchrest disciplines, while the consistent internal ballistics help tighten groups at 50m. Mean muzzle velocity runs between 1040 and 1085 ft/s, with a cartridge length of 25.4mm and a beeswax-tallow lubricant on the bullet. Every cartridge is inspected by Eley's analytical and measuring processes at the Birmingham factory, giving reliable lot-to-lot consistency. Each box holds 50 rounds, and the printed batch code lets you look up the proof velocity online. Match is well matched to .22LR target rifles and free pistols used in 50m prone, three-position and benchrest shooting, where round-to-round repeatability matters more than outright speed.
