The Parker-Hale PHWM410 is a wool cleaning mop for putting the final film of oil down the bore once the brushing and patching are done. The soft, absorbent wool head holds plenty of oil and spreads it evenly along the barrel walls, leaving a protective coat that wards off moisture and rust between outings. It is sized for .410 shotgun and .35, .357 and .40 calibre barrels, suiting bores of roughly 9mm to 10mm, so it covers a useful spread of smaller-bore guns from one mop. The mop threads onto Parker-Hale and Bisley cleaning rods, which use the long-established UK standard thread, so it drops straight into an existing Parker-Hale kit. It is a finishing tool rather than a fouling remover: run your bronze or nylon brush and patches first, then follow with the oiled wool mop. Wash the head in warm water with a little detergent now and again to keep it clean and working well. A simple, hard-wearing addition to the cleaning kit for anyone maintaining a small-bore shotgun, rifle or pistol.
