The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case in 6mm ARC is a precision reloading tool designed for use with Hornady Lock-N-Load Precision Gauges, which are sold separately. This is not ammunition — it is a specially modified cartridge case that threads onto the OAL Gauge via a fine thread, keeping it perfectly square for precise alignment inside the rifle chamber. The neck of the case is made perfectly round and opened slightly so that a standard-diameter bullet can be slipped in effortlessly and concentrically, ensuring the most accurate possible measurement of the distance from the case head to the rifling lands. That measurement allows you to set bullet seating depth with precision for your specific 6mm ARC barrel. The 6mm ARC is Hornady's high-efficiency cartridge developed for the AR-15 platform, offering excellent long-range ballistics from a compact package; accurate seating depth is particularly valuable when working up precision handloads for it. One modified case per calibre is required alongside the gauge.
