The Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) is a polymer-tipped expanding bullet built for rapid, controlled expansion at the higher velocities a flat-shooting quarter-bore delivers. These are component bullet heads for handloading — 25 calibre, .257in diameter, 117 grains, supplied in a box of 100 — projectiles only, not loaded ammunition. On impact, the hard polymer tip drives into the lead core like a wedge to start fast yet controlled expansion, while Hornady's InterLock ring mechanically locks core and jacket together to hold the bullet intact, keep weight retention high and improve the chance of a full pass-through. The secant ogive profile trims drag for a flatter trajectory, and a mid-body cannelure keeps core and jacket united while giving a clean, consistent crimp when seating. With a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.390 and a sectional density of 0.253, the 117 gr SST suits handloaders feeding .25-calibre rifles such as the .25-06 Remington or .257 Roberts, and Hornady rates the SST for deer-sized game and upward — a sound choice where a fast quarter-bore earns its keep on the hill.
