- Fits the crimp-start station on compatible Hornady shotshell reloading presses
- Used in the normal loading cycle — not a hand tool
The Hornady Crimp Starter 12 Gauge 8-Point is a shotshell reloading press accessory used to initiate the fold crimp on reloaded 12-gauge hulls. Before the final crimp stage on a progressive or single-stage shotshell press, a crimp starter is pressed into the open mouth of the hull to reform the eight crimp folds and create a centred, even starting point. Without this step, the hull mouth can wander off-centre, resulting in an untidy or poorly sealed finished crimp. The 8-point configuration produces eight fold segments, which is the standard pattern for most 12-gauge hulls. This tool is a press station accessory rather than a hand tool — it fits the appropriate station on a compatible shotshell press and operates as part of the normal loading cycle. A sound starting crimp is the foundation of a clean, consistent finished cartridge, making the crimp starter one of those small press components that earns its keep every session.
