The Hornady Single Stage Primer Pocket Swage Tool (.308/7.62x51) processes large-primer military brass on any compatible single-stage reloading press, removing the staked primer pocket crimp without cutting or generating brass swarf. Surplus 7.62x51mm NATO brass is crimped at the primer pocket as a retention measure, and that crimp prevents standard large rifle primers from seating correctly until it is addressed. This tool presses into the pocket mouth and cold-works the metal outwards — swaging rather than cutting — which preserves the original pocket wall thickness and leaves no shavings to contaminate your brass tumbler or reloading bench. Swage depth is fully adjustable to accommodate the varying pocket dimensions found across different military manufacturers and headstamps. The tool is designed for single-stage and turret presses, making it accessible to handloaders who do not own a progressive press. All the required tooling arrives in one box: the swage tool itself, a case handle, and a shell holder. For bulk processing on a progressive press, see the Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Primer Pocket Swage Tool (308). For .223/5.56 brass, see the small-primer version.
