The Laurin Metalli Carving Blade Blank is a bare blade for knifemakers who want to build their own carving or whittling knife. Made in Kauhava, Finland — a town with a history stretching back over a century in blade production — it is ground from 80CrV2 carbon steel and heat treated to around 59–60 HRC, giving it the edge retention and ease of resharpening that carvers need. The blade measures 77mm in length, 20mm at its deepest point and 3.25mm across the spine, putting it in a compact, manoeuvrable size suited to detail work in wood. The hidden tang scandi grind is characteristic of traditional Finnish puukko construction and takes a keen edge with a simple flat stone. The blade arrives hardened and sharpened; the knifemaker supplies the handle material, bolster and pins to complete the knife. Laurin Metalli has been supplying blade blanks to the Finnish knife industry since 1918, and their carbon-steel range is a well-regarded choice for handmade working knives.
