The Pixfra Arc A604 Pro is a wide-angle handheld thermal imaging monocular built for people who need to see the whole picture rather than a narrow slice of it. Its 4mm f1.0 objective lens produces a 102° field of view — currently the widest available on any thermal monocular — which makes fast-moving animals far easier to pick up and follow, and lets you cover a habitat, a barn interior or a group of animals in a single view. Detection range is 200m, and the 640×512, 12µm sensor carries an outstanding <18mK NETD sensitivity rating for reliable performance in poor weather and low-contrast surroundings.
At the other end of the scale, a 20mm close focus distance — the shortest on the market — opens up work that ordinary thermal monoculars simply cannot do, from examining insects and invertebrates to non-invasive observation of small mammals and tracing fine-scale heat patterns. Images are shown on a 0.41in, 1440×1080 OLED display with six colour palettes, hot spot trace and 0.4x-3.2x digital zoom.
A built-in video recorder captures continuous footage with sound to 32GB of internal storage in 30-minute clips, and the monocular can be tripod mounted so it can be left running while you get on with other work. Wi-Fi and the free Pixfra app allow remote control and screen sharing with up to four smartphones. The body is IP67 rated, operates from -30°C to +55°C and weighs 380g without its battery, with a rechargeable 3,200mAh 18650 cell giving up to six hours of use.
