Good, but not perfect.

I've worn the new Swazi Tahr XP a few times now and in comparison with the previous version there are a few subtle differences.
Firstly, the material is is thinner (Swazi call it lighter) and slightly noisier, the draw cord for tightening the waist, previously para cord with a cord lock toggle, is now a very thin bungee you have to tie off. The ends are sealed with plastic but one has already come off.
The pit zips are a sensible improvement however due to the 'waterproof' zips they are quite rigid and press into the armpit area making the jacket feel tighter that in is.
The external cuff adjusters were previously the same fabric as the jacket secured with velcro. They are now a very thin plastic type material. Lastly, the 'Swazi' logo on the chest is now some rubber material rather than fabric.
The Tahr XP was previously made in New Zealand however the new version is made in Vietnam, presumably where manufacturing costs are less expensive, however overall I think this may have lead to some further cost cutting and compromised the bomb proof reputation of the garment.
All performance outdoor clothing (especially that intended for sporting use) is expensive. My Tahr has been totally waterproof so far and the design is entirely suitable for stalking in Scotland although I have yet to see how breathable it is.
Overall I think the Tahr is a good purchase for what it is, I just wish I hadn't owned the previous version where the differences between the two highlight the changing nature of the design.
