Nikwax Polar Proof is a wash-in waterproofer developed specifically for fleece garments, from mid-layers to hats and gloves. Added during a normal machine wash, it leaves a flexible, water-repellent treatment on the individual fibres of the fleece rather than coating the surface, so moisture vapour can still pass through the fabric. This keeps the garment breathable while significantly improving its performance in wet or showery conditions on the hill. Polar Proof also helps inhibit pilling, which extends the useful life of fleece gear that would otherwise start to bobble with regular wear and washing. Its Durable Water Repellency (DWR) develops naturally as the garment air dries, removing the need for tumble drying, which in turn saves energy and is kinder to older or more delicate fleece items. Application is straightforward: run the fleece through a washing machine cycle with the Polar Proof added, ensuring the treatment reaches right through the garment rather than just the outer surface. The 50ml pack is sized for treating one or two fleece garments per wash.
