Keep a Swanndri oilskin jacket or vest doing its job with this 40ml tin of re-proofing wax, formulated specifically for waxed cotton oilskin garments and made in Scotland. Waxed cotton loses its water resistance over time as the original coating wears and dries out, and Swanndri recommend re-waxing every six months — or more often on a garment that earns its keep outdoors. The wax comes in a compact tin with a push-on lid, small enough to keep in a kit bag, vehicle or shed ready for when a garment starts to look thirsty. One tin is generally enough to re-wax a vest or short jacket if it's done regularly and the fabric isn't too dried out; longer coats will usually need two. Application is straightforward — work the wax into the fabric with a cloth, paying attention to seams and high-wear areas, then set it with gentle heat, either a warm day outdoors or a hairdryer on a low setting, before leaving the garment to cool. Regular re-waxing is the simplest way to keep an oilskin jacket weatherproof through another wet season.
